2019 BMW X5 - 2 Minute Review

From the video:

Last time, we showed you the new X7. Today, we’re reviewing the X5 at Burdick BMW. BMW redesigned the X5 for 2019 and the base engine now provides more power and better fuel economy than the outgoing model.

While the X7 comes standard with three rows, this X5 is set up with two. But, you can tack on a third row for an extra cost to fit seven.

People love the athletic look of the X5. The sleek kidney grille here is not as large as what you’ll find on the X7. There’s standard adaptive LED headlights, which you can upgrade. Up to 22-inch wheels are available, which is nice.

Inside, there’s now this larger panoramic moonroof. You can opt for glass controls, a heated steering wheel, armrests, and rear seats. Again, there’s space for up to seven in here with a third row added. It’s best fit for kids, though. If you need more space for adults, you might want to scale up to the X7.

This 2019 X5 has improved tech. The center touchscreen here is now 12.3 inches in size. There’s also an equally large digital instrument display. A head-up display can be added, too. The iDrive system is what’s used with these screens. A backup camera comes standard and a surround-view camera is optional.

As for cargo space, there’s just under 34 cubic feet behind the second-row. With the rear seats down, though, that improves to 72 cubic feet.

You can’t go wrong with the base 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder that powers the xDrive40i. It churns out 335 horsepower and can get up to 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. There’s also the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 456 hp and can reach 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. Both engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard. I just love the way the X5 drives, it feels powerful. You can tell this thing has plenty of juice backing it up. But, I’m still comfortable in it. I feel like my daughter would be, too.

There’s also a M performance version of the X5 to keep in mind. The M50i’s V8 engine is tuned to reach 60 mph a half second faster than the xDrive50i. Don’t confuse it with the full-blown X5 M, though, that’s on the way. The X5 M will be the most powerful option, offering around 600 hp.

I love the spunky engine of the X5, as well as the large moonroof and touchscreen. The optional third row does feel cramped, though, and some complain more luxury features should come standard inside.

The xDrive40i has a starting price of $60,700. Tack on $15,000 to that and you get the starting price of the xDrive50i. The M performance version is even pricier.

And I give this 2019 BMW X5 here an SUVs.com deal score of 91/100 It’s been around since 99, has changed a lot and is still solid.
