Overview

The Volvo XC60 is a midsize luxury SUV with space for five and it’s actually the best-selling model in Volvo Cars’ range. Volvo Cars has been performing well in recent years thanks to the XC60 and the rest of its SUV lineup. Volvo Cars set its sixth consecutive global sales record in 2019, for example, with 705,454 vehicles sold. Even during the pandemic, Volvo Cars has maintained its sales momentum. Volumes were up 7.2 percent in August of this year compared with the same period last year and by no surprise, the XC60 SUV was the top seller for the month. In fact, SUVs accounted for 70.4 percent of the company’s total sales during the month of August! That just goes to show how popular the XC60 and the rest of Volvo Cars’ SUVs are!

The XC60 SUV is beloved for many reasons. The powertrain options are wonderful, including the plug-in hybrid. There are several different trims to choose from and they all have a dynamic look. The XC60 doesn’t just look good from the outside, but it’s also luxurious and spacious inside. The technology is advanced and it makes the interior look even more modern. There’s plenty of space to store your cargo, too. Plus, you can rest easy knowing the Volvo XC60 is a highly safe vehicle. Performance

The 2021 XC60 is priced from $41,700 and the price goes up from there. The XC60 Inscription trim that SUVs.com had the chance to take a look with the T5 engine is priced from $49,200 in front-wheel drive and $51,500 in all-wheel drive. Upgrading to the improved T6 engine with all-wheel drive increases the starting price of the Inscription trim to $55,000.

The plug-in hybrid models vary in price depending on the trim. The most upscale Polestar Engineered version starts from $70,145, for example. It does produce 415 horsepower, making it the most powerful model option.

Competitors for the XC60 include the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and more. You could also consider Volvo Cars’ other SUVs, including the XC40 and XC90.

As always, be sure to do plenty of additional research on any vehicle you might be interested in purchasing. It’s always best to schedule a test drive, if possible. If you like the Volvo XC60, it can also be helpful to reach out to your local Volvo dealer to see if there are any specials you can take advantage of.

Interior

Speaking of the XC60’s interior, it’s spacious and comfortable. It feels upscale and that’s yet another reason why the XC60 is so popular! You have the panoramic moonroof that makes the interior feel even more spacious. Nappa leather seats, meanwhile, help keep you comfortable no matter how long the drive. The seats have large side bolsters that provide excellent cornering support.

One of SUVs.com's favorite aspects of the XC60’s interior is the ignition knob that you twist to bring the vehicle to life. It feels much more unique and special to start the vehicle with than your standard push button start.

The Volvo XC60 SUV also has highly advanced technology to love. There’s the 12.3” digital driver information display that comes standard on every trim. It looks stunning behind the leather-wrapped steering wheel with the Volvo logo on it. There’s also a large touchscreen that looks more unique than touchscreens in competitor SUVs. It’s oriented vertically, so that makes it a bit different. It’s powered by Volvo’s connectivity and infotainment system called Sensus. You have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto to use to your advantage with it. There’s also plenty of USB ports inside the XC60 to help keep all your devices charged. A Bowers & Wilkins speaker system comes standard for your listening pleasure and higher level trims get an even more impressive audio system.

Exterior

Part of the reason why the Volvo XC60 is Volvo Cars’ best-selling vehicle is because it looks so good! It has a bold grille, LED lighting, and sporty wheels.

“The XC60 carries the proud and confident face of Volvo’s design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues,” writes Volvo Cars.

Depending on the trim you get, the XC60’s exterior looks slightly different. The Inscription trim that SUVs.com had the chance to take a look at features 19” 10-spoke black diamond-cut alloy wheels, for example. You also have a number of different exterior colors to choose from.

To give your XC60 SUV an even more dynamic looking design, you could opt for the Exterior Styling Kit. A stylish integrated running board is yet another option.

When your hands are full, you do have the hands-free tailgate to take advantage of. All you have to do is wave your foot under the rear bumper to get it to open for you.

A final detail to highlight about the XC60’s exterior is the open-and-tilt panoramic roof. It lets you instantly enjoy the air and view outdoors and it also makes the interior feel all the more spacious!

Verdict

The XC60 is truly a great SUV to consider for a number of reasons! It has a dynamic looking exterior with a bold grille, sporty wheels, and LED lighting. Inside, the XC60 is quite spacious and it’s also comfortable. The finishes are great, including the leather upholstery. The infotainment looks good inside the XC60 and the way you start the vehicle by turning the ignition knob is also cool. You have three great powertrain options with the XC60 and all are backed by a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. The XC60 also offers plenty of variety with its various trim levels and accessories.

We gave the XC60 an SUVs.com deal score rating of 84/100. Please be sure to leave a comment on our YouTube review of the vehicle to let us know our thoughts about the XC60!
