The Popular Nissan Rogue Gets a Redesign

Published June 18, 2020 by Elizabeth Jeneault

Nissan’s best-selling model has been redesigned! The all-new 2021 Nissan Rogue is set to go on sale this fall and Nissan says it’s engineered to make family life easier. It’s the first redesign for the vehicle since 2014, so it’s a big deal! The Rogue has also been a highly successful vehicle for Nissan. According to the car buying site CarGurus.com, it was the third best-selling SUV in the United States in 2019. That means there’s a lot riding on the new model!

The third-generation Rogue features an all-new platform with enhanced driving dynamics, an interior that’s even more suited for families, and new technology. It also has an improved look!

Nissan is continuing to market the vehicle to families, but specifically to millennials with kids.

“The all-new Rogue was purposefully designed to meet all of the needs of today’s young families,” said Mike Colleran, senior vice president of marketing and sales in the United States for Nissan. “Rogue is playing to win in the midsize crossover game with the ideal mix of expressive design, advanced technology, safety, comfort and versatility.”

Continue reading below to learn more about the redesigned Nissan Rogue! It’s offered in S, SV, and SL grade levels. There’s also a new Platinum grade for 2021! It has the fanciest features of the bunch.

Exterior

Nissan says the Rogue’s new exterior reflects the spirit of the vehicle — versatile, fun, edgy, and adventurous.

The body itself measures 1.5 inches shorter and 0.2 inches lower than the previous generation, giving it a chunky new look. With a more upright grille, a more horizontal hood, and a back that’s more squared off, the redesigned Rogue aims for a stronger stance and presence.

New multi-level LED headlights with an expanded illumination area are standard on all 2021 Rogue grade levels and accent the powerful front grille design. The vehicle will be offered in a wide range of color combinations, including some two-tone combinations for the first time!

Interior/Technology

The interior of the 2021 Rogue is described by Nissan as a true “family hub.” What does that mean? It’s designed to provide comfort and utility for everyone in both the front and rear seats!

For example, the rear doors open extra wide to make getting in and out easier. It also helps when it comes to installing child seats. You can install a child seat in all three of the rear seating positions, by the way. That means adults or children can sit on either side of a center-positioned child seat, which can help make things more comfortable.

Rear seat comfort features include standard reclining NASA-inspired Zero Gravity seats and you can make those heated. For the first time, the Rogue is also equipped with available tri-zone climate control. Passengers in the back can control the environment separate from the driver and passenger controls.

Another feature that makes the 2021 Rogue’s interior a “family hub” is the new “butterfly” opening front center console that allows for easy “pass-back” access to the second row. Children are always asking for things as you’re driving, so that “pass-back” access can be quite helpful!

The rear cargo area is also now easier to access thanks to the newly available motion-activated tailgate.

As for technology and infotainment, there’s a lot to like about the all-new Rogue! While an 8” touchscreen comes standard, a larger 9” screen is available. It allows Rogue drivers to customize and enhance the driving experience and it appears to be floating off the dash.

For the first time for Rogue, there’s now the option of a large 10.8” color head-up display! It puts critical information directly in the driver’s line of sight.

There’s also an available 12.3” digital instrument cluster over the standard 7” multi-information display. The standard 7” display is larger than the previous generation, though, and both the 12.3” and 7” displays are customizable!

The new range-topping Platinum grade level gets the fanciest interiors features including the 12.3” digital instrument cluster, 9” floating touchscreen, navigation, a 10.3” head-up display, heated rear seats, ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, a Bose Premium Audio System, the list goes on!

Performance/Safety

The 2021 Nissan Rogue rides on an all-new platform and it offers enhanced driving dynamics.

Every 2021 Rogue features a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that provides 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. That’s an increase of 11 hp over the previous generation!

Fuel economy sees small gains with the front-wheel drive Rogue S having the best figures of the lineup. It gets an estimated 27 miles per gallon in the city, 35 on the highway, and 30 combined.

2021 Rogue all-wheel drive models offer five drive modes, by the way.

As for safety, Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 comes standard across the entire Rogue lineup. It includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist and rear automatic breaking. It also offers 10 standard supplemental air bags and extended crumple zones to help protect the people inside the vehicle.

You can also continue to opt for Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist, which has been enhanced. It offers hands-on, driver-assist technology that reduces the hassle of stop-and-go highway driving and makes those long drives on the highway much easier.

Pricing/Our Take

Unfortunately, pricing has not yet been announced for the 2021 Rogue. We will be sure to update you when we have those figures.

Again, the 2021 Rogue goes on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide in the fall. It’s a big deal because it’s the first redesign for the Rogue since 2014!

Nissan has made a number of solid improvements to the crossover for 2021. From the chunkier design, to the even more family-friendly interior, and expanded infotainment options, there’s a lot to like about the 2021 Rogue!

Nissan is directly competing with the Toyota RAV4 and The Honda CR-V with its Rogue and so the third-generation model means a lot to the brand. Nissan needs this new Rogue to sell well and so there’s a lot riding on it!
