The Ford Bronco Gets a Reveal Date & The Hyundai Santa Fe Gets a Facelift

Published June 9, 2020 by Elizabeth Jeneault

The reveal date for the 2021 Ford Bronco is nearing! The reimagined Ford Bronco was originally going to be revealed sometime in March of this year, but that was scrapped because of the pandemic. Excitement for the vehicle has been steadily building, though, and especially as leaked images of it have made their way online! A Ford spokesperson recently confirmed on Twitter that we thankfully won’t have to wait all that much longer to get a full look at the new Bronco. That spokesperson confirmed a July debut for the off-road SUV!

The Ford Bronco’s History and Revival

Ford first introduced the Bronco back in 1966. The company’s original SUV “cut a trail to the great outdoors that would be followed by generations of Americans,” as Ford states on its website.

The Bronco was designed to be an off-road vehicle that could compete with the Jeep CJ. It was on the market for three decades and during that time, it developed quite a legacy.

When you think about the Bronco, you might also think about O.J. Simpson. He infamously led police on a car chase through Los Angeles in his white Ford Bronco.

While some people still try to claim that the Ford Bronco went out of production in 1996 because of the O.J. Simpson police chase, Ford has said multiple times that the vehicle’s demise has nothing to do with the highly publicized chase.

Ford says the Bronco stopped being produced because people were simply less interested in purchasing two-door, two-row SUVs and were more interested in four-door options. That’s why Ford started producing the Expedition.

Ford announced back in 2017 that it planned on bringing back the Bronco nameplate. The hope is that the revived vehicle helps the company better compete with Jeep (and more specifically, with the Jeep Wrangler).

What We Know About The 2021 Ford Bronco

The leaked images of the new Ford Bronco have given us all a great idea of what it will look like. It boasts boxy styling, high ground clearance, and it has a removable roof and doors. It’s also available as a two-door or four-door.

As for what else we know about it, the 2021 Ford Bronco will share the same platform as the Ford Ranger mid-size pickup truck. Auto experts predict the base engine will likely be Ford’s 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and that there will be a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 available as an upgrade. Another, even more powerful engine option is possible. Ford has also said a hybrid powertrain will be offered with the new Bronco.

There’s also the Bronco Sport to look forward to, which some refer to as the “Baby Bronco.”

2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Has a New Face, Improved Interior

The Hyundai Palisade, which is the corporate cousin to the Kia Telluride, has been praised for its design. It has been selling well for Hyundai and so Hyundai is looking to keep impressing customers with a significant refresh of one of its other SUVs.

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe looks more attractive and unique than before! It has a distinctive new grille design that gives the SUV’s front end a much more aggressive look. The grille is wider than before and it can feature different patterns depending on the trim level. It’s also underlined by a strip of bright trim.

A new lighting signature for the Santa Fe includes T-shaped daytime running lights. The T-shaped motif continues at the back with a thin light bar that accentuates the SUV’s width. The refreshed Santa Fe also has wider wheel arches and 20-inch alloy wheels.

It’s clear the SUV’s design has come a long way since the original model made its debut back in 2000. It definitely stands out more than it ever has and we assume designers were going for that.

Improvements have also made their way to the interior of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe. It’s now more spacious and comfortable than before. Hyundai says every component is finished in premium soft-touch material and also pointed out how the high center console makes the front passengers feel like they’re sitting in an armchair. There’s also more storage for small items thanks to designers replacing the gear selector with four buttons on the center console.

The technology inside the Santa Fe has been improved and Hyundai has also rearranged the SUV’s dashboard so that it looks more like that of the three-row Palisade. What’s nice is that the driver faces a 12.3” digital instrument display. There’s also now a 10.3” touchscreen available with navigation. In models equipped with all-wheel drive, there’s a Terrain Response dial that adjusts tuning for that system.

We don’t exactly know all the details about the powertrains we’ll see for the 2021 Santa Fe in the United States just yet, but many are expecting the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that makes 185 horsepower and the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 235 hp to continue. Both are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and come standard with front-wheel drive. There might also be a hybrid option that joins the Santa Fe powertrain lineup in the future.

The fifth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe will arrive in showrooms here in the United States before the end of 2020 as a 2021 model. Additional information should be released within the coming months, including pricing.

Our Take

We’re excited for both of these sport utility vehicles to make their way to market and we’ll make sure to bring you full details on both of them, but especially the Bronco.

For now, we just know that the Bronco will be revealed sometime in July.

As for the Santa Fe, Hyundai hopes to get it to sell like its Tucson does. It’s left to be seen whether the 2021 redesign will make it more of a hot seller. People do seem to love the look of the Palisade, though, and so they may like the refreshed Santa Fe more since it borrows some of its design cues.
