Memorial Day SUV Deals For Military & More

Published May 26, 2017 by Elizabeth Jeneault

Memorial Day is one of our most important holidays. While people can sometimes confuse its meaning with that of Veteran’s Day, the holiday is designed for remembering people who died while serving in our country’s armed forces. Veteran’s Day, on the other hand, celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans. Therefore, many view Memorial Day as having added meaning. It’s always observed on the last Monday of May. Many people spend the day visiting cemeteries and memorials. At national cemeteries, volunteers place American flags on soldiers’ graves. Aside from being a time for remembrance, Memorial Day also offers people an opportunity to snag a good deal on a new vehicle. This year, at least one automaker is celebrating the holiday by offering military members a pretty nice discount on their SUVs. Hyundai is doubling its normal military incentive on its crossovers and SUVs for United States servicemen and women.

Memorial Day Deal for Military Members

Hyundai says it’s proud to offer the increased discount. “Hyundai has long been dedicated to helping servicemen and women get into a new vehicle and 13 percent of Hyundai purchases come from military personnel thanks to our consistently strong program,” said Derrick Hatami, vice president of national sales for Hyundai Motor America. “During Memorial Day weekend this year, we are doubling the discount on our CUVs and SUVs for military personnel and that’s in addition to our Better Than Ever Sales event.” That means any active or retired military personnel and their spouse can receive $1,000 toward the purchase of a new Hyundai Tuscon, Santa Fe Sport or Santa Fe. Hyundai’s existing military incentive program of $500 off, meanwhile, will continue to apply to all other Hyundai models. Hyundai is also celebrating Memorial Day by presenting the National Salute to America’s Heroes event in Miami Beach, Florida. “We’re proud to sponsor the National Salute to America’s Heroes and honor everything the military does for our country,” said Dean Evans, CMO of Hyundai Motor America. “Building off the better experience we provided this past Super Bowl, we are looking forward to paying tribute to our military at one of the biggest Memorial Day events in the country.” The main component of the two-day event is the world class Air & Sea Show. It showcases our country’s state of the art military technology. All five branches of the military as well as police, firefighters and first responders will be represented. The event is free and open to the public. It also marks the beginning of an annually produced exhibition of gratitude known as Salute 365. The 365-day initiative is designed to pay tribute, honor and encourage military and first responder heroes through a special network that connects Americans and corporate sponsors to them.

Other SUV Deals

If you’re not a military member and are still looking to snag a good deal on an SUV this Memorial Day, Kelley Blue Book reports there are several good options. It came up with a list of the top lease, financing and cash back deals for May and several SUVs are on it. In fact, an SUV even tops out the list. "The number one spot on the list showcases one of the best-selling compact SUVs on the market, the Nissan Rogue, and the list also includes other crossovers plus sedans and even a well-regarded minivan,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com.

Nissan Rogue

It’s probably making plenty of SUV lovers smile that the Nissan Rogue tops out Kelley Blue Book’s top ten best car deals of the month list. The vehicle is incredibly popular and is also a great option for people that need extra seating but don’t want to go with a larger SUV. The compact SUV comes with an available third row in order to fit seven. It also offers respectable fuel economy. You can snag the Nissan Rogue for just $199/month for 36 months with $2,399 down.

Ford Escape

Taking hold of the number three spot is the 2017 Ford Escape. While it’s far from flashy, it’s a solid option and according to Kelley Blue Book, offers more fun-to-drive than most of its competitors. Not to mention, the 2017 model year features a significantly updated interior and styling. The vehicle is currently being offered with 0 percent financing or $4,000 cash back. You can also take advantage of this deal past Memorial Day. That’s because the offer doesn’t expire until late June.

Infiniti QX30

The next spot on the list, the number four slot, goes to the 2017 Infiniti QX30. The subcompact SUV is fun to drive and definitely has good looks to match. Kelley Blue Book shows it being offered at $279/month for 39 months with $2,699 down.

Subaru Outback

The 2017 Subaru Outback is the last SUV on the Kelley Blue Book list and it comes in at number seven. The family-friendly, all-wheel drive SUV just may be the perfect fit for someone looking for a vehicle that they can take on an adventure, but that will also last them a long time. We all know the Japanese automaker is known for building long-lasting, quality vehicles. KBB’s list shows a lease offer of $299/month for 26 months with $1,729 down. The offer expires the first week of June.

Our Take

We all know that spring is a great time to purchase a new vehicle. We’re sure plenty of you SUV lovers out there are wanting to hit the road this summer so having a new vehicle to do it in would probably make your life a lot easier. If you’re looking for a good deal and are a member of the military or a spouse of a military member, it wouldn’t hurt to give Hyundai’s SUVs some consideration. If you’re not a military member and still would like a deal, the four SUVs that made it onto Kelley Blue Book’s list this month are also good options to consider.
