Some of you might know that I’m a mom and this vehicle right here? Well, it’s fit for the whole family as there’s space for up to eight in this 2020 Subaru Ascent. This Touring model, though, has these fancy captain’s chairs to fit seven.
Thanks for watching this video, by the way! My name is Liz Jeneault of SUVS.com, we review SUVs weekly and today I’m in Houston, Texas at Subaru Gillman North.
And since everything is bigger here in Texas, this is the perfect Subaru model to show y’all because it is the biggest Subaru ever! It comes in base, Premium, Limited, and Touring trims. This range-topping Touring has LED Steering Responsive Headlights, which is nice. Other areas to highlight include the chrome door handles, the gloss black grille, and these raised roof rails. Those are standard on all models.
The extra wide rear door openings here help you access the three rows inside. This 54" panoramic moonroof is just absolutely gorgeous. Again, captain’s chairs come standard in the middle of this Touring. Love all the space to store your small stuff as there are 19 cup and bottle holders that come standard, as do many USB ports. Up to 86 cubic feet of cargo space available, which is a lot. As for tech, only an 8” touchscreen in here. I do wish it was larger for the Touring being the highest trim. It does get navigation as standard, though! There’s also Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Although this Touring has a significantly higher starting price than the base version, it features the same engine. All models get the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine that churns out 260 horsepower. It’s plenty powerful for a family hauler and every Ascent offers Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. That’s nice for those family trips. There’s also 8.7 inches of ground clearance and X-MODE to put to good use. Plus, every Ascent gets EyeSight Driver Assist Technology!
Recap and rating time! Exterior is solid, but nothing too crazy style wise. 7 there. Interior is nice, especially in this Touring. But, the touchscreen isn’t that big and the third row can feel a bit cramped. So, a 7. Performance I rate at an 8. Plenty powerful, handles well off-road and in snow, all-wheel drive is standard, and there’s lots of safety features to put you at ease. Fuel economy is nice at 27 mpg city (NOTE: rated at 1 mpg less in Limited and Touring trims), beating out competitors. Plus, a long highway driving range. 9 there. Value I would say is a 10 because there’s a lot you get and there’s that added, awesome reliability factor of a Subaru.
