2020 Honda HR-V - 2 Minute Review

Published February 12, 2020 by Elizabeth Jeneault

Hi guys! Liz Jeneault with SUVs.com here and I feel like I’m always looking at 7/8 passenger SUVs, so today I’m reviewing a much smaller option.

It’s the Honda HR-V, the smallest SUV in Honda’s lineup. But, it offers a surprising amount of space inside, including ample cargo room!

And I want to make sure to quickly thank Lamacchia Honda for having me by.

This is the HR-V Sport and what’s great is that you get all this style for an affordable price, including the cool black honeycomb grille. Plus, this trim features larger 18-inch wheels that also have a sporty, fun design.

Step inside with me and take a look at the solid amount of space offered. Plus, this back row makes the HR-V highly versatile. The “Magic Seat,” as Honda calls it, offers multiple cargo modes. You can fit taller items in here like a lamp by folding up the seat bottom, so that’s cool! Over 58 total cubic feet of cargo space is offered.

You get this 7” display on this Sport trim and above and it has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. There’s also a standard rearview camera.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters that you get with this Sport trim also helps add to the interior’s feel.

Going up in trim level is the only way to get even fancier features like heated front seats, the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver assist technologies, a power moonroof, navigation, and LED headlights.

There’s a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 141 horsepower. All-wheel drive is optional on all trims and comes standard on the range-topping Touring. While a subcompact SUV like this doesn’t need a ton of power backing it up, the engine does feel a bit lackluster. You get a sportier drive with the Mazda CX-3, for example. But, the HR-V is agile, nimble, and easy to maneuver.

Rating time now! The exterior of this HR-V Sport is great, love the honeycomb grille and sporty wheels. So, an 8. Interior, 7.5. While I’m not crazy for the infotainment, the HR-V is spacious and highly versatile. Performance, 7. And this AWD Sport gets 31 mpg on the highway, so an 8 for fuel economy. And as for overall value, I’ll rate that at a 7.5

And that results in an SUVs.com deal score of 76/100.

What do you guys think of this subcompact HR-V? Let me know!
