This is the subcompact 2019 Mazda CX-3 and while this tiny crossover did receive some changes for 2019 like a stronger grille, more chrome accents, a slightly more powerful engine, and additional safety features, it does still look close to its original design. That’s a good thing, because many people like the look of the CX-3!
But, the CX-3 isn’t going to be for everyone. The rear seat area is cramped and can get uncomfortable for adults on long trips. There’s also not that much cargo space. But, what the CX-3 does offer is a fun, sporty ride!
All trims feature the same engine. The trims are: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. Even the Grand Touring is priced competitively, starting around $27,000.
While the CX-3‘s infotainment system with its 7” touchscreen is starting to feel outdated and doesn’t offer Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, the interior does still feel nice overall. There’s also a new center armrest in the rear area with cupholders. Plus, more safety systems come standard! All models now feature a rearview camera, Smart City Brake Support, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert. When properly equipped, it's considered a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS.
Opting for the range-topping Grand Touring will get you the most impressive features like LED headlights with auto leveling, a power sliding-glass moonroof, leather-trimmed sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a Bose 7-speaker audio system, and more.
While subcompact SUVs are not typically known to offer engaging driving dynamics, you absolutely get that with the peppy, nimble, and maneuverable CX-3! There’s a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that was slightly improved for 2019 to now produce 148 horsepower. It’s paired to a 6-speed automatic and all-wheel drive is optional on all trims. Now, the CX-3 does sit lower to the ground than some competitors. So, driving through the snow or deep slush might prove more difficult.
Recap time! Exterior remains pleasant and especially for a such a small crossover, 7. Interior is solid, but the technology is starting to get a little outdated and the rear seat and cargo areas are small, 6. Performance is solid with the CX-3 (although you may want to take it easy on slushy roads), 8. Fuel economy is excellent, so a 9 there. And for the peppiness, safety features, and solid interior you get, I rate value at an 8.
