Introducing the 2016 Jaguar F-Pace SUV

Porsche added an SUV to its lineup, Lamborghini has one in the works, and even Maybach is rumored to have some kind of sport utility in the works, so it only makes sense that Jaguar would join the party. Based on the overwhelmingly positive response to its C-X17 SUV concept in 2013, Jaguar will introduce its first SUV later this year with the 2016 F-Pace. A five-passenger luxury crossover SUV will offer all the great things you expect from Jaguar combined with class-leader passenger and cargo room plus exceptional driving performance. With the high-end luxury SUV segment continually expanding, Jaguar is working hard to put its F-Pace at the top of the list.
The basics of the F-Pace
Dubbed as the “family sports car” by Jaguar, the F-Pace will offer all the power and performance of their luxury sport sedan in a decidedly more family-friendly package. It will be based on the same aluminum platform that Jaguar will be using for a number of upcoming models including a new compact sedan and updated versions of the XJ and XF. While an aluminum frame will help the F-Pace maintain a lighter weight than its competition, which improves handling and fuel economy, you can expect to pay a bit more for the improved technology. As far as size, the 2016 F-Pace will fit somewhere between the compact and mid-size designations with ample room for five passengers plus a spacious cargo area whether the rear seats are up or down.
The mechanics of the F-Pace
While Jaguar has not officially divulged what will power the 2016 F-Pace, if the C-X17 is a true indicator, there will be two engines available to choose from. The base version will most likely be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder but Jaguar will offer the option of a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with an eight speed automatic transmission paired with both. The F-Pace will reportedly be available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions and the latter will get Jaguar’s All Surface Progress control for exceptional handling and extra traction on slippery surfaces. The F-Pace will also benefit from an advanced suspension system that has been designed specifically for Jaguar SUVs. While many details of the F-Pace are still unavailable, if it is anything like its prototype C-X17 concept, we can expect it to be one of the best performance luxury crossover SUVs available.
While Jaguar has not released too much information about its new sports luxury performance F-Pace SUV, they have given consumers enough to get their attention and anticipate what is to come. With the number of choices of SUVs growing exponentially every model year, even luxury automakers are joining the movement to offer spacious, functional go anywhere SUVs with all the amenities one would expect in a high-end luxury sedan.
