Overview

Porsche is a legendary brand. The performance that a Porsche offers is highly sought after, and the company’s SUVs help make owning a Porsche more practical and realistic. While you’ve likely heard of the Porsche Cayenne SUV before, Porsche also makes a smaller SUV called the Macan. The Porsche Macan is a luxury compact SUV that packs lots of power under the hood. Even the Macan’s standard engine produces 248 horsepower! The 2020 Porsche Macan starts from $52,100. There’s also the Macan S, Macan GTS, and Macan Turbo to consider. The Macan Turbo’s starting price is more than $30,000 higher than the standard Macan, but its engine produces 434 hp and it goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.3 seconds!

Performance

The standard engine of the Porsche Macan is quite impressive. It’s a turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 248 hp and can reach a top track speed of 141 mph. There’s also the more powerful Macan S with its updated twin-turbocharged V6 to consider. It makes 348 hp and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

The most powerful Macan models you can get are the Macan GTS and the Macan Turbo. The Macan GTS offers an impressive 375 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. It helps the compact luxury SUV go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 162 mph. The Macan Turbo, meanwhile, produces 434 hp and reaches 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds! With the Sport Chrono package, you can even get that 0 to 60 mph time down slightly further to 4.1 seconds. The Macan Turbo can also reach a top speed of 167 mph!

The Macan isn’t just a powerful compact luxury SUV, but it also offers exceptional handling.

“A Porsche delivers more than power alone,” states the brand on its website. “Such as the active all wheel drive system Porsche Traction Management, for example: traction, outstanding steering and exceptional handling — clear evidence of traditional Porsche engineering.”

The optional air suspension system guarantees a constant ride height on any terrain. Porsche Active Suspension Management also actively and continuously adjusts damping force for each individual wheel for increased comfort and sportiness in all seats.

If you’re after lots of power and exceptional handling with your luxury vehicle but you still want something that’s going to be practical and allow you to bring a few people and some cargo with you, then the Porsche Macan might just be a great vehicle option for you!

Interior

The Porsche Macan is a luxury compact SUV and so it’s not going to have an endless amount of space inside, but it might be more practical for you than some of Porsche’s other vehicles. You can fit up to five people inside the sporty Porsche Macan, though it can feel a bit cramped with three large adults in the backseat. It offers a cargo space of up to 52.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

The sporty front seats of the Macan make you feel like you’re sitting high above the road, yet still closely connected to it.

“As a sports car manufacturer, we understand that a car and its driver must form a single entity,” writes Porsche on its website. "So you do not simply sit in the Macan — but, thanks to its architecture, you are integrated into the vehicle.”

The three-dimensional arrangement of the controls lends the Macan’s interior a cockpit character. The distance between the standard multifunction wheel, PDK gear selector, and the main vehicle functions is extremely short, which is characteristic of sports cars. The ignition is also on the left, as is typical of Porsche.

A major highlight of the 2020 Porsche Macan is the new 10.9” touchscreen display with full-HD resolution. The new, intuitive menu provides even faster access to the main functions of the luxury compact SUV. The standard online navigation system that goes with it helps get you where you need to go with ease.

What makes sitting inside the Macan most exciting, though, is the engine that’s under the hood. Continue reading below to learn more about the compact luxury SUV’s performance!

Exterior

The Porsche Macan has a dynamic overall look. It has that awesome sports car feel you very well might be after. Its roof line slopes to the rear like a coupe which helps create that characteristic sports car contour with high aerodynamic quality. Porsche calls this the Porsche flyline.

The Macan’s redesigned rear appears more powerful than before. The new characteristic taillight strip emphasizes the Porsche logo as if it were a bold line under its own signature. The redesigned rear is also enhanced by the new four-point brake lights, both functionally and visually. The broad shoulders above the rear wheels of the Porsche Macan, meanwhile, are reminiscent of the iconic Porsche 911.

The front of the Porsche Macan is also stunning. You have the logo prominently featured on the beautifully shaped hood of the luxury compact SUV. When looking at the Macan, your eyes are also drawn to the wheels. There are lots of different stylish wheel options offered with the Macan, it’s truly worth taking a look at all of them! You also have plenty of different exterior colors to choose from including stunning metallic color options, special colors, and you can even choose your own custom color! One thing to keep in mind, though, is that opting for customization will drive up the price of your Macan.

The most dynamic looking Macan has to be the Macan GTS. It has several different special exterior features that help designate it as one of the range-topping models.

Competition

If you like the Macan but fear you might need some more space, you could always take a look at the Porsche Cayenne.

As for competitors of the Macan, you might want to take a look at the Jaguar F-PACE, BMW X3, or the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The standard Porsche Macan starts from $52,100. The Macan S starts from $60,200. The Macan GTS has a starting price of $72,100, and the most powerful Macan Turbo starts from $84,600. Personalizing your Macan and upgrading it will drive the cost up further.

Verdict

The Porsche Macan is a sports car at heart and that’s what sets it apart. If you want a luxury vehicle that’s more practical than a two-seater but you still want lots of power backing it up, this Porsche Macan might just be a good fit for you!

We gave the Porsche Macan an SUVs.com deal score of 80 out of 100. Was are your thoughts on the compact luxury vehicle? Be sure to leave us a comment on our YouTube video.
